I am directed to inform you that, subject to your being passed by the Medical Adviser to this Department as being physically fit for service, they propose to select you for appointment as a Nursing Sister in the Hong Kong Medical Department, with salary at the rate of £175 rising by annual increments of £10 to £195 per annum. (Duty allowance or war bonus is payable. The currency of Hong Kong is a silver dollar currently, the exchange value of the dollar with sterling varying with the price of silver. The salaries fixed in sterling are paid to officers normally serving in the Colony at a rate of conversion fixed by the Government. This rate is now 2/- to the dollar but is liable to alteration.)

It is to be understood that your engagement is for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony, and that, if it is not established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are qualified for efficient service there, he will, subject to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said three years without giving you any further compensation than a passage back to England, which will be granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have...
